Lesbian Gender Identity
Yes sexuality and gender are two completely different categories! These two categories are often misunderstood for one another. However, even as they are different they do have a unique relationship with one another. Sexual identity and gender identity do interact with one another intimately. And both are significant aspects of identity.
Masculinity and Femininity are social constructs and often fall into ridged stereotypes. With that being said a lot of people embody both masculine characteristics and feminine characteristics. The journey of discovering identity is a journey of exploring all characteristics within. Maybe some aspects are rejected while others are valued. Maybe trauma or hurtful relationships have cause us to reject parts of self.
The most commonly evaluated rejection is the one of our emotional self. Why do some see their emotional self as feminine and weak while other see it as a great strength in their life? When we dive into identity these are the kind of questions we are asking.
Some lesbian women embody their inner masculinity in a beautiful and powerful way. This does not mean they are transgender or identify as male. Exploring inner masculinity and femininity is a powerful journey of self discovery and one we love to go on with people.
At the Gender Identity Center we understand the unique and complex depths of gender and sexuality and how it comes together in human existence. If you want a therapist who can dive in and hold all of these parts with you then come see us! This is our passion and what we love to enter into with people.
