Choosing to begin therapy is an investment that takes a lot of courage and strength. We respect the courage it takes to make this choice and we take our roles as therapists very wholeheartedly. To be someones therapist is both an honor and a privilege. It is a beautiful journey we would love to go on with you.
Services offered
Individual Therapy: Work one on one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.
Family Therapy: Have multiple family members come together and work with a clinician to focus on family relational dynamics as well as how events affect the family system as a whole. If you don’t know whether to choose individual or family therapy just come to the first appointment and we’ll determine the best solution and plan with you. We have therapists who specifically support the family members of transgender individuals through their own process.
Parent Support: If you are a parent of a gender nonconforming or transgender child we can help you understand and maneuver this new journey. It’s a personal journey for the parent to go through as well as for the child. It can be challenging to meet all of your child’s needs while also working through what this means to you personally. We understand and can help support you as well as connect you to other parents on the same journey.
Group Therapy: Each group runs one day a week for 8 to 10 weeks, depending on the group. Groups are run by a licensed therapist and involves a combination of process and education. They are typically comprised of 6 to 8 clients within the same age range, struggling with the same topics, and they provide a powerful outlet of peer support. For more information about upcoming groups, please email us at: info@genderidentitycenter.com.
Referral Letters for Transitioning: GIC follows the WPATH standards of care for Transgender health. We can write referral letters for transitioning as needed.
Art Therapy: Sometimes it is hard to find words to express and process thoughts and feelings. The use of art in therapy can be a powerful means to healing and growth. KT Moore is a Licensed Art Therapist and is passionate about integrating creative art expression into the therapy process.
Couples Therapy: Attend therapy with your spouse or partner to get support in communication and connection. We have trained couples therapists who can provide a safe and caring environment to work through relational struggles. We specifically specialize in providing couples therapy to LGBTQ+ couples.
Professional Consultation/Supervision: We provide professional consulting/supervision sessions for professionals in the mental health field. Kathryn Heltzel, Aiden Sismondo, and KT Moore are Arizona Board of Behavioral Health approved supervisors. To talk further about this please give us a call.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic technique used to reduce the intensity of trauma symptoms. Our therapists Tyler Alexander, Aiden Sismondo, and Riley Walsh are trained in EMDR and capable of providing this treatment.
Speech and Communication Therapy: Receive therapy in voice feminization or voice masculinization from a trained Speech and Language Pathologist. Our SLP is available for in person voice therapy every week on Thursdays.

About GIC
The journey of gender dysphoria can destroy self-confidence and leave a person feeling lonely, anxious, or depressed. Because gender dysphoria is very complex and unique, we believe that specialized support from highly-skilled, caring professionals is necessary. Our team of therapists are fully equipped to help clients live a wholehearted life with passion and strength.
The Gender Identity Center was started in order to bring healing and understanding to those who have suffered from the experience of gender dysphoria. We understand that every person’s experience with gender is different. We do our best to be unbiased and we’re careful to not direct clients in any one direction; instead, we allow clients to decide for themselves who they are and what they need in the therapy journey.

THE SPACE
We believe it is really important to have a safe space that is comfortable, nurturing, and therapeutic. A therapeutic environment is essential for people who are growing and taking on a journey of self discovery. We deeply value providing an environment of acceptance, safety, healing, and empathic understanding. A place where people are free to verbalize their thoughts and feelings without judgement.
The physical environment is important in cultivating this type of therapeutic experience which is why we have put a lot of intentional thought into our new therapy space. When you come to GIC you will be greeted with a smile, offered hot tea with honey, and provided with options of fidget toys or soft pillows to sit with.
